For Absolute Beginners

No. We operate under a “Section 11(6)” exemption, which allows non-license holders to shoot under the supervision of an instructor.

With proper tuition, no. Instructors will teach you how to “mount” the gun correctly against your shoulder and can provide low-recoil cartridges or smaller-gauge guns (like a 20-bore) to ensure it’s comfortable.

Dress for the weather with comfortable, layers. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory (no thongs). Avoid jackets with bulky collars as they can interfere with how the gun sits against your shoulder.

The club usually insists a minimum age of 12, this reflects the VicPol requirements for Junior shooters.

Equipment & Logistics

For beginners, the club provides everything: the shotgun, cartridges, ear defenders, and safety glasses.

Yes, provided you have a valid Shotgun Certificate. We have some restrictions on cartridge types, but primarily any cartridge used on the grounds must be a STEEL load. NO Lead

Yes. Like most grounds shoot “rain or shine.” Not many of our shooting stands are covered, so it’s always best to bring a waterproof jacket & hat or cap

We can accommodate everything from individuals to large corporate groups or stag/hen parties, usually in “squads” of 5–6 people per instructor.

General Questions

No. We enforce a strict zero-tolerance policy for alcohol and drugs. Any alcohol consumption must wait until after the shooting is finished.

Statistically YES, it is one of the safest sports in the world. Safety is maintained through strict muzzle control, “broken” guns when walking, and mandatory eye/ear protection.

Don’t worry! Instructors are there to help you “read” the clay’s flight path and adjust your lead. Almost everyone hits a few by the end of their first session.

Our targets fall under the category of “Simulated Field” which mimic targets which may be encountered whilst out and about in nature, sometimes referred to as “Sporting Clays”

Other disciples are Skeet, Trap or Down-the -line, as seen in Olympic competition.
